What Will Your Life Echo?

We often think about our influence in terms of what we can see happening right now. But some of the greatest influences in our lives come from people whose words and examples were given years ago.

Hebrews 12 tells us that we are surrounded by a “great cloud of witnesses.” These were not perfect people. They faced struggles, weaknesses, uncertainty, and opposition. Yet their faithfulness became an example for those who came after them.

That should cause us to think about the example we are leaving behind.

A prayer offered today may strengthen someone long after we have forgotten praying it. A word of encouragement may stay with someone for years. The way we worship, serve, remain faithful, and respond during difficult seasons may quietly teach someone who is watching us.

Our lives speak beyond the moments we are living.

I am thankful for the people whose faith helped show me which way to go. Their influence reminds me that I have the same responsibility to those coming behind me.

We cannot choose how long we have to make an impact, but we can choose what kind of impact we make.

The question is not simply, “How am I living today?”

Perhaps a better question is: “What will my life continue to say tomorrow?”
